Christmas table inspirations and variations...

In my opinion one of the most enjoyable thing about the event industry is the way that one theme can be taken and worked into so many beautiful and creative interpretations. Just check out A REALLY SMALL selection of some amazing Christmas tables. There's glam black and white, pretty pastels, reds, purples and lime greens. Each match the Christmas celebration mood so beautifully and each are pure inspiration. What's your plan for your Christmas table this year?

Wednesday's cake of the day: ... with roses

How spectacular is this cake?! Puts my lame attempts to shame. Those roses are delicate and pretty, and that blue is so striking (and so lovely smooth!). How great would this cake be for a ladies birthday party or maybe a bridal shower? Wouldn't the guest of honor feel loved?

Happy cakes

Over the weekend I wanted to do some more practice working with fondant. In particular I wanted to try my hand at covering a whole cake. Now it hardly seemed worth it to make a big cake, so I made a little one that would (if it didn't look ridiculous) become a gift for a friend.

I was really quite happy with how it turned out. Sure it's not flat and doesn't have that same neat finish that you see from 'real' cakes that are decorated by people with talent. But, it looks like I wanted it to, and that's the first step.

Because I had cake mix left over from my mini cake I figured I would use the fondant, and my baby free time (he was sleeping beautifully... sleeping like a...well, baby actually) and decorate the cupcakes as well. It was fun playing with such bright colours!

But of course, it wasn't enough, so I made up some iced sugar cookies to finish out the trio. The neon pinbk and orange were so much fun. I am glad, because hot pink and orange are shaping up to be the colours for my Pink Ribbon day function!

Nursery charm - vintage owl motif

Aren't these just beautiful? They are a 'do it yourself' collage taken from the Martha Stewart website. Yes, I know. I have been looking at the Martha site. But I am loving this little owl motif for decorating the nursery...

Isn't this the cutest cushion? It's from the most beautiful store over in Bulimba My First Room.

I did end up getting the following little fellow from
Etsy store Bwinks. Isn't he darling?
